Joint Career Fair Proposal: Action Needed
Greetings Region 2!!
At the 36th NSBE National Convention in Toronto, the collegiate leadership brought forth a proposal for the organization for a Joint Career Fair/Convention between NSBE, SHPE, AISES, and SWE. This Joint Career Fair/Convention would replace the career fair that normally accompanies National Convention and would be held in the fall. The proposal calls for the Joint Career Fair/Convention to be held in Fall 2012 with joint conventions held for 2 -4 years afterwards. Revenue from the career fair would be distributed in pre-determined percentages to the four member organizations. A change like this would require a major shift in the way the society operates and will have wide-ranging effects on all members. Attached are documents that discuss the pros-and-cons, different scenarios, and financial assumptions for NSBE if the proposal is passes.

Keeping in mind that the alumni do not have a vote in general NSBE business, the National Alumni Executive Board is gathering feedback from the alumni in order to make a recommendation to our collegiate counterparts. There are several ways to join the discussion/give feedback:
- Discuss amongst your chapter and provide your comments to your chapter president by Monday, April 12th
- Join the discussion on NSBEWorld (www.nsbeworld.org). You will need your NOL NSBE membership number to join. Since NOL is down for a month, please contact Barbara Nichols, Region 2 AE Chair at r2aechair@nsbe-ae.org for your membership id number. (Please note that as today that the leadership has not begun the discussion area on this topic as they said they would).

- Attend the Q&A session after the Washington, DC General Body Meeting. The AE-DC general body meeting will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 6:30 – 8:00 pm, BAE Systems, 80 M Street SE, Washington, DC 20013
There will be a National AE Village Call discussing the topic on Tuesday, April 13th at 9 PM, lead by our National Alumni Chair Brian Jackson. Due to the limited number of slots available, priority will be given to the Region 2 AE chapter presidents first, then other interested parties. Please contact Dr. Barbara Nichols, Region 2 AE Chair for more information. For those who are interested in listening to the call, the Washington, DC chapter is planning to hold a “listening party/event” for those who want to hear the discussion. Details about the event will be announced as soon as possible.
I apologize for the late notice on this matter. The outgoing National Executive Board has planned to conduct a vote on the proposal at their next meeting April 16 – 18, 2010, which gives us a limited amount of time to gather feedback from AE members. All AE opinion and feedback will be consolidated into a report that will be submitted to the National Executive Board prior to their vote on the proposal.

Regional Leaders Wanted
Do you want to make a difference in the Alumni Extension? The Region 2 Alumni Extension board is a good place to start. Review the Candidates Handbook for information regarding elected and appointed positions for the 2010-2011 year. The deadline to submit your declaration of intent is March 29, 2010.
Note: Elections for the 2010-2011 Regional Alumni Executive Boards will be held during the National Convention in Toronto on April 2, 2010.

Regional AE Member of the Year Nominations Open
The 2009-2010 Region II Alumni Extension Member of the Year Award nominations are now open. These awards are designed to recognize Region II Alumni members who have embodied the goals and mission of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
If you want to nominate any one for the award please send the nominations to the Region II Alumni Chair-Elect Shannon Grady at r2aechair-elect@nsbe-ae.org by February 28, 2010. Nominations must be submitting using the nomination form.
Award will be presented at the Alumni Joint Regional Meeting of the Technical Professional Conference at National Convention on Saturday, April 3, 2010.
